1. What is asbestos?
Asbestos is a group of naturally occurring minerals made of tiny fibers that are heat-resistant and strong. It was widely used in construction, insulation, and industrial products in both commercial and residential properties.

2. Where is asbestos commonly found?

Asbestos can be found in roofing, flooring, insulation, ceiling tiles, pipe coatings, cement products, infill panels, soffits, and some older household appliances.

3. Why was asbestos used in buildings and products?
It was used for its durability, fire resistance, and insulating properties, making it a popular choice for construction and industrial applications.

4. Is all asbestos dangerous?
Asbestos becomes dangerous when its fibers are disturbed and airborne. Intact and undisturbed asbestos-containing materials are generally considered low risk.

5. How can I tell if a material contains asbestos?
You can’t reliably identify asbestos just by looking. Testing by a certified professional is required were samples will be carefully taken an analysed by a UKAS-accredited lab.

6. Do i need an asbestos survey?
Not all properties require an asbestos survey by law (residential) though it is always recommended to have one especially when in the process of buying a new property. Commercial properties are required to have an asbestos survey if they are built prior to 2000.
